The Hutchinson Heritage Foundation, Inc., a non-profit 501c(3), is driven by the commitment of the direct descendants of the Hutchinson Family to enhance lives and foster a deeper understanding within our community and beyond. Our mission is rooted in preserving, safeguarding, and celebrating the vibrant Gullah Geechee history and culture of Edisto Island, South Carolina.

EDUCATION

In a climate of racism, black history erasure, and book bans, the Hutchinson Heritage Foundation is resolute. We will seek transformative education, collaborating with like-minded institutions to ensure accurate history prevails.

CULTURE

The barrier sea islands' isolation allowed enslaved people to preserve rich African traditions, evident in their unique language, food, farming, arts, stories, music, and spirituality.
